Sad thing is a lot of entrepreneurs are being used by social media, rather than using social media to grow their business.

Not convinced?

Okay, take a quick inventory of how much cumulatively you have spent on social media today, and ask yourself how much of that time was you doing profit producing activities?

Profit producing activities are all efforts that directly result in sales/ revenue for your business.

I’m talking about prospecting, presentation, content creation (purposeful and ending with a CTA), etc.

Not the 10 minutes here and there that you spent reading people’s articles and watching motivational videos. Yes, personal development is great but it is not a direct profit producing activity.

Here’s how to think of social media.

Once you get this, all you need is the discipline to treat it like it should.

Distribution

If you are a entrepreneur and you want to leverage the internet to build your business, the best way to think of social media is ‘Distribution Channels’.

It doesn’t matter if you are the best expert in fashion design, if nobody hears your name or gets to know what you do.

Yes, social media should be used to engage with your audience and build relationships, but at the core of your business strategy for social media, must be that it leads people back into your sales funnel.

Do you have a sales funnel? (Topic for another day)

When I say distribution, do not begin to think of the thousands of trucks delivering coca-cola crates to shops and depots nationwide. .

I’m talking about channels where your brand gets attention and your content is consumed.

Facebook, Twitter, Instragram, Snapchat, Youtube are the new generation equivalents of CNN, BBC, STV, AIT, Channels, TVC.

If your brand was to have a segment on Channels TV, what would you say?

How would you represent yourself?

How would you tie it back into more business for yourself?

That’s How To Think Of Social Media.

The other Mindset Shift you need to have is to begin to think of yourself like a Media Company.

You do not have to form a new entity with CAC, but you need to think of yourself as a media company, all your content as production pieces, and social media channels (including your blog) as distribution channels.

That’s how you wouldn’t ask silly questions like ‘Am I posting too much?’

Does Channels switch of their broadcast because they think you are overwhelmed?

If possible, they want you to sit glued to their content 24 hours of the day, because they need your attention…

and guess what?
